England Wins the Series Decider

England wins the last match by 4 wickets to clinch the series 2-1.

Sam Billings hit his first ODI fifty to give England a steady start in the chase of 278. Nasir Hossain gave Bangladesh the first breakthrough, as he trapped James Vince plumbed in front. The first wicket put 63, second wicket did 64 runs. Third wicket added 45.

Bairstow and Duckett fell in quick succession with an interval of 7 runs . The Tigers captain Mashrafe then broke the 48 runs partnership between Buttler and Stokes. The English captain was dragged on after making 25.

Mashrafe struck again, as Moeen Ali was caught in mid-on after making just 3. But there was Ben Stokes, who was the part of 42 runs partnership with Chris Woakes. Stokes was not out on 47, so was Woakes on 27. It was Woakes who won the match for England with a six.

Earlier in the day, rain was the main talking point, but it was, only before the game had started. There was a rain forecast throughout the day, there was rain even today in Chittagong. But the groundsmen of Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium did an excellent job to prepare the ground. The series decider started on time as England won the toss and chose to field.

Two Bangladeshi openers gave a firm start, first wicket partnership put 80 runs. But then Imrul fell for 46, off 58 deliveries. Tamim becomes the first Bangladeshi batsman to score 5000 runs in ODIs but he failed to reach the milestone of fifty. He followed his opening partner, with five short of his fifty.

Mahmudullah came, hit Adil Rashid for a six. He was dismissed in the very next ball.

The partnership between Sabbir and Mushfiqur was building on as these two added 54 runs. But Sabbir also couldn’t reach to fifty, he became the third scalp of Rashid in the day after scoring a cracking 46 balls 49.  

Shakib and Nasir followed him, both made 4 runs each.

Then the youngstar Mosaddek joined the test captain Mushfiqur. Mushfiq becomes the first batsman on the day to reach fifty, he’s done it in a style by hitting Chris Woakes a six over mid-wicket. The 7th wicket partnership added 85 runs and this was highest for this wicket of Bangladesh against England.

Both Mushfiq and Mosaddek were not out on 67 and 38 respectively. In the end Bangladesh have had 277 to defend. But they couldn’t defend it, and so they couldn’t win their 7th consecutive series.

Adil Rashid wins the man of the match award for his 4 wicket haul that changed the match. Ben Stokes is given the honors of Man of the Series for his all around performance in the series.
