Bangladesh struck earlier today and didn’t allow England to increase their lead more than 285 runs. Bangladeshi spinners took only 20 minutes to wrap up England innings and all out England on 240 runs.
England’s goal to set a target of 300+ runs shattered as spinners were outstanding in their 4.2 overs and didn’t allow Batsmen any chance to play scoring shots. To carry on the scorecard, Broad tried to take an impossible single and got out by tremendous combined work of Mushi and Miraz. Later, Taijul sent back Batty.
Bangladeshi openers started pretty well and made a solid partnership of 35 runs. Tamim suddenly lost his concentration then and got caught at the short leg. Kayes and Mominul, since then, played some delicately beautiful shots to carry on Bangladeshi innings swiftly. Kayes was seen promising but suddenly misjudged the length of a ball, attempted a sweep shot and unfortunately got top-edged. His pledging innings ended on 43. Eventually, Bangladesh went for lunch on 86 for 2.
Bangladesh have never defeated England in their eight previous attempts and never won a test match chasing down a target more than 217 runs. England may reckon that they have set an improbable target for Bangladesh but Bangladesh may seek some hope with their last performance against the same opponent on the same venue as they had scored 331 runs in the 4th innings in 2010.
