Dhaka Dynamites have started their BPL campaign this season with a comfortable win by 8 wickets despite some brilliant batting display from the Barisal duo Mushfiqur Rahim and Shahriar Nafees. National team pacer Mohammad Shahid leading the bowling unit to restrict the Bulls to a modest 148 runs total, Dhaka opener Mehedi Maruf, alongside Srilankan veteran Kumar Sangakkara, proved himself too much for the opponents.
Losing the toss, the Bulls were put into bat first. Mohammad Shahid started to dent in their batting from the 3rd over of the innings as he got Shamsur Rahman caught by Mehedi Maruf. After couple of other quick dismissals by Bravo and Shakib, Barisal side had their score growing at a good rate with skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Shahriar Nafees picking up boundaries. Their 82-runs partnership off 51 balls put the Bulls on course. Nafees reached his 4th T20 fifty smashing 7 fours and 2 sixes. He was chopped on by Shahid with a fuller on off stump. However, Mushfiq survived the last ball of the innings to bring up his half-century off 36 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Nevertheless, the score once seemed to well pass 160, stumbled on a regular basis as the latter batsmen could not carry it on. Mohammad Shahid was best among the Dhaka bowlers who finished with the figure of 3 for 21. Shakib, Bravo Bopara claimed one each.
Having a target of 149 off 120 balls, the Mehedi-Sanga opening partnership set the platform for a comfortable win as Dhaka gunned down the required runs in just 16 overs. The pair was separated in the 9th over with 88 runs on the card as Sangakkara fell for 30, trapped in front by Taijul. With the victory 12 runs away, Shakib was bowled out by another left-arm spinner Monir Hossain for 19.
However, it was Mehedi Maruf who did not give the bowling side a sniff of chance. Bringing up his maiden T20 fifty off 30 balls, Mehedi continued brilliantly with the bat as he came out victorious remaining unbeaten at 75 runs off 43 balls smashing 5 fours and 5 sixes.
