After an impressive show of performance by the bowlers, a classic Mohammad Shahzad innings was the highlight of Rangpur Riders’ 9-wickets win over the Chittagong Vikings. Opting to bowl first, the Riders strangled the CHV batting order upfront and eventually got them all-out for 124 before knocking off the runs in just 15 overs.
Tamim and Malik started it well for the Vikings. But both of them left the crease within three balls as Shohag Gazi striked from his first over reducing the Vikings to 21 for 2. A 48 runs stand between Anamul Haque and Shoaib Malik kept CHV on course. Unlucky Anamul got run out as Malik lofted a full toss into the bowler’s hand which he couldn’t hold and the ball hit onto the non-striker’s stumps keeping Anamul (25) short. Later on, other than Malik (30), only one batsman reached the double-digit score as the Vikings were wrapped up for 124.
For the Riders, a rollicking partnership from the opening pair of Soumya and Shahzad posted 77 runs off 59 balls. Soumya was then caught behind off a short delivery from Tymal Mills for 23. But the sensational Afghan opener Mohammad Shahzad continued his dominance over the Vikings bowlers as he left the field steering his side past the finish line with an unbeaten 80 runs smashing 11 fours and 3 sixes.
Chittagong Vikings 124/10, 19.4 overs (Malik 30, Anamul 25; Shohag 2/18; Gleeson 2/30); Rangpur Riders 125/1, 15 overs (Shahzad 80*, Soumya 23; Mills 1/30)
Result: Rangpur Riders win by 9 wickets
