Dominant Rangpur Riders post their consecutive second win and remain at top of the table as they defeated Khulna Titans by 10 wickets Thursday night. Restricting the Titans to a BPL lowest of 44, RR got past the target in just 8 overs.
RR captain Naeem Islam won the toss and elected to field first. His bowlers started to dismantle KHT batting form the very beginning as Shohag Gazi bowled out Nicholas Pooran from second delivery of the innings. Gazi striked again to run out another opener Abdul Mazid with a direct hit at the non-striker’s stumps. The Titans collapse continued as skipper Mahmudullah was trapped in front by Richard Gleeson.
It was then all about Afridi and Sunny who tore through the KHT batting order. Afridi’s disastrous spell started with cleaning up Wessels and Kapali off his first two deliveries. Former Pakistan skipper then bowled Shuvagata – top scorer of the innings- for 12 from his second over. Arafat Sunny joined the party claiming Ariful and Junaid to reduce the Titans to 40 for 8. Afridi and Sunny shared the rest 2 wickets to pack KHT up for 44, the lowest total by any team in BPL and 3rd lowest in T20 format. Afridi finished with 4 for 14 while Sunny, with his 3/0, made a record of claiming maximum wickets without conceding a single run.
Rangpur then competed the chase in 8 overs losing only 1 wicket. The man of the match from last night, Mohammad Shahzad was caught and bowled by Junaid Khan this time for 13. However, Soumya and Mithun steered their side past the finish line without any further loss.
