Impressive display of batting from the Dhaka Dynamites were the highlights of their commanding win over the table toppers Rangpur Riders. Put in to bat first, Dhaka posted a season-high total of 170 before denying the opponents a triple-figure score.
Earlier in the evening, Dhaka rode on the back of Nasir and Sangakkara who set platform for the biggest total of the season till now. Opener Mehedi Maruf was dismissed quickly after opening his account with back-to-back six and four. Dhaka’s decision to send nasir at number three clicked well as the sensational all-rounder made 38 out of 33 balls studded with 6 fours. He stitched a 69-runs stand with Sangakkara which saw their side on 79 for 1. Finally it was Shahid Afridi who got rid of Nasir who holed out to Rubel Hossain at long-off. Afridi struck again one ball later, this time on Ravi Bopara’s pad to remove the Englishman for a duck. Dhaka’s fall continued as mighty Sanga was dismissed from the following over, finding Soumya at deep mid-wicket to reduce his side to 81/4.
Here is from where Mosaddek took the lead. Half-centurion from the last night, Mosaddek played another stroke powered innings to post an unbeaten knock of 48 off 25 which he decorated with 7 fours and 2 sixes. In addition, some late entertainment from DJ Bravo and Seekkuge Prasanna helped Dhaka to set a target of 171.
Rangpur’s uphill climbing did not seem to be on course for a while. Their task was made more difficult by some disciplined bowling from the Dynamites. Their top order strangled around five overs, a huge defeat was on the verge. Skipper Naeem’s 26 was the highest individual score of the Riders innings as they were packed up for 92.
