Match Report: Victorians suffer fourth consecutive loss as Dhaka top the table

Comilla Victorinas fans have left the gallery once again to see the defending champions getting defeated, their 4th one at a stretch, as they are yet to register their maiden win in the AKS BPL T20 2016. Opting to bowl first, Mashrafe and Co conceded a whopping total of 194 runs before getting restricted by the Dhaka Dynamites bowlers to lose the match by 33 runs.

Put in to bat first, DD rode on the half-century of their in-form opener Mehedi Maruf and his 84 runs stand with Nasir Hossain off 52 balls. After losing Sangakkara early, Mehedi and Nasir took the attack to the opposition in grand style. Mehedi was the more aggressive of the two batsmen, taking the aerial route on three occasions. The domestic league performer notched up his 2nd T20 fifty off 31 balls. Nasir Hossain accompanied him with his 43 from 35 balls. He made the boundary line for five times, three off a single over from Saifuddin, before he was taken by Ahmed Shehzad at long-off while attempting to loft over ten Doeschate.

Comilla’s Afghan leggy Rashid Khan then removed Ravi Bopara and Mehedi Maruf within three balls. Mehedi’s 60 runs knock off 39 balls was decorated with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Later on, DD total reached a season-high of 194 with a cameo stance of 24 runs from the skipper Shakib Al Hasan from 13 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes.

Requiring 9.5 runs per over while chasing, Comilla were never even in a fighting position. A brisk start from their opening pair came into end early when Imrul Kayes lofted Nasir Hossain to get caught at mid-off for 19. Following over, another opener Jashimuddin was caught at square leg attempting a sweep for a boundary. Comilla collapse continued as imbalanced Ahmed Shehzad was stumped by Sangakkara after sending Mosaddek Hossain at stands for back-to-back sixes. The Victorians’ hope dimmed literally when Nazmul Hossain Shanto and ten Doeschate were bowled out, both nicking attempted cuts off short ball onto the stumps, reducing CV to 70 for 5. Mohammad Shahid then joined the party to get rid of Rashid Khan and Al-Amin off a single over.

A 37 runs 8th wicket partnership between skipper Mashrafe and Sohail Tanvir and then 35 runs between Mash and Saifuddin could only minimize the margin. Mashrafe offered some late entertainment with his 47 runs stand from 35 balls which he decorated with 2 fours and 5 sixes, 4 of them were off a single over from Shakib. Safiuddin made the boundaries for one six and three fours off the final three deliveries to remain not out on 18 from 8 balls.
