Match Report: Comilla register maiden win to level points with Rajshahi

Comilla Victorians have registered their very first win of the season defeating another struggling side Rajshahi kings. In a clash between the two bottom teams on the point table, Comilla have clinched a comfortable win by 20 runs. Setting a decent target of 153, the Victorians demolished the Kings on 120.

In pursuit of the target, Rajshahi started it cautiously. However, Sohail Tanvir striked from his very first over to remove Junaid and Sabbir from back to back deliveries. Losing wickets at regular intervals, opener Mominul held a fort at one stand to notch up his second fifty of the BPL season. He made 19 of a Tendo over to bring his side back in the fight. But he holed the final delivery of that over to deep mid wicket as he was caught there by Khalid Latif. From there, rest of the Kings barely managed to raise the score to 120 before getting all out.

Comilla shuffled their batting line up this time sending Nazmul Hossain Shanto, usually a no. 4 batsman, to open with Khalid Latif who replaced Marlon Samuels. The decision to raise Shanto up the order clicked well as he added 41, yet slowly off 40 balls. However, losing two Pakistani top order Latif and Shahzad early, Shanto’s 42-run stand with Imrul Kayes pulled Comilla out of danger. Imrul’s 34 came off 25 hitting 5 fours before he had to leave as a stunning direct hit from point fielder Salman Hossain (sub) got him short of his ground. Finally, another 41-run unbroken partnership from Tendo and Sohail Tanvir helped COV to get past the 150-mark. For Rajshahi, skipper Sammy removed his opposite number Mashrafe after cleaning up Shanto.
