Dominating Khulna Titans have continued their winning race defeating another favourite of the season Barisal Bulls by 22 runs. Setting a decent target of 152, KHT kept pegging away wickets as their bowlers and fielders put brilliant team effort and packed up the Bulls for 129. This win, 5th in their 6 matches, have lifted the Titans to top of the point table.
Defending the total, Khulna bowlers kept denting from the beginning. They drew the first blood by removing BB opener Fazle Mahmud for a duck off the second over, trapped in front by Junaid Khan. The Bulls went on losing wickets at regular intervals. A 4th wicket partnership of 43 between Mushfiqur and Shahriar Nafees could not rescue BB as five of their batsmen could not reach double digits and were eventually all out on 129. The Titans impressed with their ground fielding too, getting 8 of the Bulls batsmen caught out. Pacer Shafiul Islam, with his four-fer tonight, now tops the highest wicket takers of the BPL season.
Earlier in the evening, the Titans did not have a blazing start, losing both the openers from a single over of Taijul and were caught at long off by the same fielder heaving recklessly, Abu Haider Rony. Before that, Hasanuzzaman bashed Rumman Raees for three boundaries. Later on, skipper Mahmudullah and Riki Wessels stitched a 53-run stand off 37 balls which kept them on course. Taijul striked again to remove Mahmudullah who was caught at short third man region attempting to pull toward mid-wicket after hitting a massive six over that area. Mahmudullah continued with his good form to score 44 off 26 with 2 fours and 3 sixes. Wessels went on flourishing to put 40 from 29 hitting 4 fours and 1 six before he was bowled out by Rayad Emrit. Ariful Haque was then the man who lifted the Titans past 150 with his unbeaten 26 off 22.
Khulna Titans 151/7, 20 overs (Mahmudullah 44, Wessels 40; Taijul 3/18); Barisal Bulls 129, 19.3 overs (Mushfiqur 35, Shahriar 28; Shafiul 4/17)
