A spirited Rajshahi Kings side have registered their consecutive second win, third of the season, as the beat the table-toppers Rangpur Riders by 12 runs. Posting a total of 162/5, the Kings restricted the Riders to 150/5.

Put in to bat first, the Kings lost their in-form opener Mominul Haque from the very first over of the match. Pulling Shohag Gazi across the deep mid- wicket boundary, Mominul was trapped in front off the immediate delivery attempting another pull. Sabbir and Junaid put a 47-run 2nd wicket stand from 34 balls before Sabbir was stumped for 31 off 24 with 4 fours and 1 six. Junaid (23) and Samit Patel (17) also contributed, albeit RR were reduced to 92 for 5 off 13.5 overs losing wickets at regular intervals. It was then the skipper Darren Sammy who took the responsibility on his shoulder to pilot the run-machine. Sammy added unbeaten 44 from only 18 balls courtesy 3 fours and 4 whopping sixes. Umar Akmal accompanied him to remain not out on 33 as the Kings finally posted a tenable total of 162/5.

Chasing down the target, the Riders were lagging behind the run rate from the beginning as they scored only 25 from the first 6 overs. Opener Mohammad Shahzad was bowled out for 18 from the 7th over by Nazmul Apu to make things more complicated. Nasir Jamshed was run out on 68 as his run-a-ball 27 came to an end as Mominul caught him short of his ground. Mohammad Mithun continued with his flourishing form in this BPL to record his second T20 fifty of the season as he was not out on 64 from 36 with 3 fours and 4 sixes. However, other batsmen couldn’t contribute enough as RR conceded a marginal defeat by 12 runs.

With this win, RK are now placed on the 5th position of the point table, ahead of Barisal Bulls and Comilla Victorians.
