Another dominant bowling performance followed by another brilliant captain’s knock from Tamim Iqbal have guided the Chittagong Vikings to a comprehensive 5 wickets win over the Khulna Titans. Keeping the opponents to 131 for 8, the Vikings chased it down in 18.4 overs. With this win, the Chittagong side now remain on 2nd of the point table.
Opting to bat first, the Titans batting rocked from the very beginning as their top order could not stand Vikings spinners and at one point they were reduced to 38/4. Skipper Mahmudullah took the rescuer’s role one more time with his 42 off 39, hitting 4 fours and 1 six, before he holed out an attempted pull to Zakir Hasan at deep mid-wicket off Taskin Ahmed’s delivery. In addition to this, combined effort from Ariful (18), Pooran (18) and Cooper (15) lifted the team total to 131/8. For the Vikings, Taskin Ahmed and Imran Khan Jr. claimed 2 wickets each.
With that total, the Titans needed early breakthroughs to remain in the fight. But Tamim and Gayle denied them by scoring 39 from the first 4 overs. Shuvagata Hom came to remove Gayle for 19 (from 11 balls, with 3 fours and 1 six). Couple of run outs then reduced them to 54/3. Despite fall of wickets at one end, Tamim held the other end up as he eased himself to his 4th fifty of this season. He was not out on 66 from 59 with 8 fours and 1 six. Tamim enjoyed the company of Jahurul(22) and Nabi (17) and eventually got CHV past the finish line with 8 balls to spare.
Khulna Titans 131/8, 20 overs (mahmudullah 42, Wessels 20*; Imran 2/16, Taskin 2/28); Chittagong Vikings 135/5, 18.4 overs (Tamim 66*, jahurul 22, Gayle 19; Shuvagata 1/7, Cooper 1/18)
