The Dhaka Dynamites have firmed their position on top defeating the Rangpur Riders by 42 runs. Opting to bat first, Dhaka posted a great total of 188/7 riding on the back of Elvin Lewis before restricting the Rangpur to 146/8.
Mehedi Maruf and Elvin Lewis brought out an animated start for DD as the dynamic duo scored 103 from just 58 balls. The latter was more devastating among the two who, in his opening match of this season, set the platform for a whopping total with his 34-ball 75 courtesy 3 fours and 8 sixes. Mehedi Maruf and Shakib Al Hasan chipped in with 40 and 29. However, other batsmen couldn’t capitalize much on the brisk start as they ended on 188/7. For the Riders, Rubel Hossain was most successful with his 3 for 25 who beautifully uprooted stumps of two key Dynamites’ batsmen, Shakib and Bravo.
The Riders’ chase was dealt an early blow when Shahid Afridi went for a duck, skying a short delivery from Abu Jayed to Andre Russell at deep mid-wicket. Abu jayed came back one over later to dismiss Mithun, who was caught by Seekkuge Prasanna at cover point attempting a slash over that region. Shakib and Prasanna reduced RR to 45/6 before Ziaur Rahman and Arafat Sunny held fort at both ends. They put 87 runs together from 56 balls, albeit too lately to offer any challenge. Zia was the top scorer for his side as he brought up his maiden T20 fifty before getting bowled by Jayed from the last delivery of the innings.
Dhaka Dynamites 188/6, 20 overs (Lewis 75, Mehedi 40, Shakib 29; Rubel 3/25); Rangpur Riders 146/8, 20 overs (Zia 60, Gazi 36; Jayed 3/20, Shakib 2/11) ;
