In recent years Afghanistan has become a known opponent to Bangladesh team in the international level but in the U19 arena the two teams have met for only one time. In that match Bangladesh has won by a clear margin of ten wickets. The conquest has continued today as well as the young tigers have beaten the Afghan lads by a comprehensive margin of 4 wickets.

This swift start in the ACC U19 Asia Cup, however, didn’t follow the rough preparation period. Youths of Bangladesh haven’t got that much opportunity to practice together in Sri Lanka. They reached the venue, Matara just before a day of the match. But the tigers have showed their wrath in the match with a complete dominance over Afghan lads.

Bangladesh have won the toss and decided to field first. The bowlers backed the decision of the captain in a mesmerizing way and didn’t allow Afghan batsmen at all to score easy runs. Qazi Onik was exceptionally phenomenal by taking 4 wickets giving only 22 runs whereas Mukidul Islam clinched 3 wickets to accompany him greatly. Afghanistan got all out on 146 run in 48.3 overs.

In reply, Bangladesh started cautiously but stumbled on 19. Afif Hossain then scored some quick runs but was unable to elongate his innings more than 19 runs. Bangladesh lost their third in a quick succession and since then, the solid partnership between Saif Hassan and Rayan Rafsan Rahman showed Bangladesh the path to the victory. But they both have thrown their wickets away on 142 run just 5 runs away from the victory and rendered Afghan bowlers to bring some excitement to the match. Bangladesh lost another one on 146 run but eventually the team anchored safely with a win without any further demise.

The young tigers will face Singapore tomorrow in their second game of the tournament at Galle.
