The struggle of Bangladeshi batsmen in the ACC U19 Asia Cup continued in the semi-final and in this crucial knockout game none of the batsmen were able to score a 40 plus innings. The poor batting performance ultimately cost the semi-final.
Bangladeshi skipper Saif Hassan won the toss and elected to bat first. He started well and scored 26 runs in just 27 balls. But he lost his temper at the 9th over and got out. Another opener Sozib Hosen followed him quickly but Afif Hossain, Habibur Rahman and Rayan Rafsan Rahman did well to repair the early damage. But they all failed to carry on their innings despite of being set and ultimately it caused Bangladesh a lot. The tails were not strong enough to put an impact on Sri Lankan bowlers and Bangladesh got all out by 194 runs. Jayawickrama led the destruction by taking 4 wickets giving only 25 runs. Weerasingha also took three wickets giving only 29 runs.
In reply, Sri Lankan openers started with blast. V Chathuranga played a quick innings of 68 runs and contributed to a solid opening partnership of 74 runs. After that, Nayeem Hasan struck twice and tried to put a fight. When Bangladeshi bowlers were toiling hard to restrict Sri Lankan batsmen then rain came up and stopped the play. Eventually the umpires called of the day and declared Sri Lanka U19 team winner by 26 runs according to D/L method.
