Bangladesh lost the first ODI at Christchurch despite the fight-back by Mosaddek and Mushfiq at the end.
Kiwi skipper, Kane Williamson, has won the toss and decided to bat first without any hesitation. Kiwi batsmen responded to his decision splendidly and scored runs maintaining a fatty run rate. Tom Latham and Colin Munro were exceedingly phenomenal- together they put a massive 5th wicket partnership of 158 runs. They have played two nonpareil innings of 137 and 87 runs respectively and rendered his team to reach the apogee of 341 runs.
Mustafizur Rahman has made his comeback to international cricket by this match. In his first spell, he deceived Guptill with a magnificent slower and struck for Bangladesh. In the 48th over, he sent back the centurion Tom Latham. Bangladeshi seamers, at the ending phase of New Zealand innings, picked up wickets in quick succession but weren’t able to diminish run rate. Shakib was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh who took 3 wickets. Apart from Mustafiz, Taskin also picked up 2 wickets.
Bangladeshi top order was not up to the mark in response to the mammoth target of 342 runs. Tamim scored 38 runs but all through his innings, he struggled to middle the ball. Shakib tried to score runs quickly and played an innings of 59 runs just out of 54 balls. After his departure, Mushfiq and Mosaddek were holding the sway but unfortunately Mushfiq pulled his hamstring and had to retire hurt. Mosaddek showed his rigid character at the end and scored unbeaten 50 in just 44 balls. Bangladesh eventually scored 264 runs and lost the match by 77 runs.
Next game of the series will be held at Napier on 29th December.
