Before leaving for Sri Lanka, Bangladesh Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim met the press at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Here is the full question-answers of the press conference.

Do you think this is the best chance to win against Sri Lanka?

Mushfiqur Rahim: Kind of. There is always chance, every series is a new opportunity for us. They will miss some proven players like Angelo Mathews. Still, the game will be in their home. We are playing good cricket for some time, so pressure will be on them too. Considering everything, we have a fair chance. But everything depends on our game. If we can play our game, the result should be in our favour. We have accumulated some knowledge through our coaching stuff. This will also be a great deal of help to us.

Does the memory of the previous Galle Test inspire you?

Mushfiqur: We have to start everything afresh. The wicket of Galle is historically spinning. But we had a good batting wicket last time. The result also went to our favour. Although we think, we have enough balance irrespective of the wicket. We have enough verities at our disposal.

Is this the best preparation against Sri Lanka?

Mushfiqur: The truth is, we have raised our level to a certain extent. Whether it is Test or One day, people believe we can win playing good cricket. This is a plus point for us. And when Shakib, Mustafiz, Miraz will bowler together, this will create some pressure on the opponent. Hopefully, everything will be alright for us.

What is the plan for Rangana Herath?

Mushfiqur: Every team has some match winning bowlers. Herath is playing for a long time, definitely one of the bests in the business. We have some plans for him. And some of us have faced him earlier, so we do know our jobs. We will try to thwart him by not giving any wickets.

How do you see the bowling department?

Mushfiqur: Our batting has been a lot better. But bowling could cope with it. Our bowlers still lack some experience, they will need more time be a bit matured. And our fielders have to take some responsibilities for it. I think, if Shakib-Mustafizur-Taskin,-Rubel-Subhashis-Miraz-Taskin play to their potential, we can take definitely take 20 wickets.

How is the feeling of the 100th test?

Mushfiqur: Of course it is an exciting moment. Actually, it is a great moment for the whole country, in fact for the whole nation. We will try our best to mark the occasion memorable.

How do you see Sri Lanka’s wicket?

Mushfiqur: Wicket is definitely a factor. But, I personally believe, batting in good wicket overshadows batsmen’s credit. The wicket we faced in India was in fact a bit flat. But the opponent bowling was a threat. They made our time hard with the both new and old ball. But, we are prepared for every type of wicket. And both of the team will try to take advantage of the wicket.

How do you see your keeping?

Mushfiqur: I always try to do my job perfectly behind stumps. Every keeper makes mistakes. Wriddhiman Saha of India is one of the bests at the moment. He also dropped a catch of Riyad Bhai (Mahmudullah) against India. If Riyad Bhai had won the match for us, the story would be different. And cricket is our bread and butter. We try to do our best. But you know, to err is human.

How do you see the chance against Sri Lanka?

Mushfiqur: You always have to play for win regardless the opponent. But I have said, we have to go a long way in Test. Against England, we lost the match marginally. We also fought neck to neck against New Zealand. We played good cricket against India till the 4th day. But we are still young, and we will learn from our mistakes.

Do you want to continue our keeping?

Mushfiqur: Of course I enjoy it. But I also enjoy bowling (laughing). But I can’t do all stuffs. The team management, coach and board will decide my rule. I played the couple of matches in the last Asia cup only as a batsman. I personally believe, I can contribute better both as a batsman and keeper. Now, the other things depend on the board.

What is the expectation against the top order?

Mushfiqur:  Top order is a big strength for us. But it did not click for the last couple of series. Hopefully, Tamim, Soumya, Muminul, Mahmudullah will click this time.

What is your thought with the reviews?

Mushfiqur: Review has become quite ambiguous not only for us, but also for all the teams. If you recall last day, Lokesh Rahul and Murali Vijay have squandered two easy reviews. India is an experienced team, still they cant take the best of it. Kumar Dharmasena is one of the top umpires, but he struggled with reviews in the England series. Specially, the task is tougher in the sub continent. Sometimes, the bowlers got over excited. But there are many things to ponder.

Do you think, you should move yourself up in the batting order?

Mushfiqur:  I used to bat at seven at a time. Whether I will move myself up depends on the management too. The top order is not clicking, hence the question is asked. But this entirely depends on the future whether I would bat at number four or five. I will do everything for the sake of the team.
