Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 5 wickets and clinched the title of Max Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2017 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong.
Earlier Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Asitha Fernando gave the first breakthrough to Sri Lanka by diminishing Imran Butt on 5. Chamika Karunaratne struck twice between 2 overs and picked up the wicket of Hussain Talat and Haris Sohail. Bilal Asif was the next man to go after scoring 11.
Soon Shehan Jayasuriya joined the party and grabbed the wickets of Mohammad Rizwan, Khushdil Shah and Zafar Gohar in quick succession. At 85/7, Usama Mir and Hammad Azam came to the rescue for Pakistan and added 47 runs in the 8th wicket.
Hasaranga de Silva broke this partnership and got rid of Usama Mir on 26. Azam was also dismissed for 25 in the next over. Ghulam Mudassar was the last man to be dismissed on 1 as Pakistan were bowled out for 133 runs in 42.1 overs. Shehan Jayasuriya was the most successful bowler with 3 wickets for 22.
In reply Sri Lanka lost the wicket of opener Avishka Fernando early in the innings. Couple of overs later Shehan Jayasuriya also departed for for 7. Soon Charith Asalanka and Angelo Perera followed him which left Sri Lanka in trouble on 89/4. Then Usama Mir picked up the wicket of Sadeera Samarawickrama on 45. But Kithuruwan Vithanage and Hasaranga de Silva’s unbeaten 36 runs partership in the 6th wicket helped Sri Lanka to seal a 5 wicket victory.
Shehan Jayasuriya was adjudged Man of the Match while his teammate Charith Asalanka grabbed the man of the tournament trophy.
