Bangladesh lost to England in their opening match

England : 308/2 in 47.2 overs (Root 133*, Hales 95, Morgan 75*, Sabbir 1/13, Mashrafe 1/56)

Result : England won by 8 wickets.

Bangladesh lost their first match in the ICC Champions Trophy against England by 8 wickets at the Oval.

Batting first Tamim and Soumya Sarkar gave Bangladesh a good start in the opening stand. Soumya departed after scoring 28. Imrul Kayes went for 19. Then Tamim and Mushfiqur added 166 runs in the 3rd wicket partnership.

Liam Plunkett got rid of Tamim and Mushfiqur in the 45th over. Tamim scored 128 off 142 balls including 12 fours and 3 sixes. Mushfiqur’s innings of 79 from 72 balls included 8 fours. Sabbir Rahman’s quickfire 24 guided Bangladesh to score 305 for 6 in 5o overs. Plunkett was the most successful bowler for England with 4 for 59.

 

In reply England lost Jason Roy early of their innings as Mashrafe Bin Mortaza got him out on 1. Alex Hales and Joe Root made 159 runs in the second wicket partnership. Sabbir got rid of Hales on 95. Root’s unbeaten 133 and Eoin Morgan’s 75 gave England a comfortable 8 wicket victory with 16 balls remaining.

 

Bangladesh will face Australia in their second group match on 5th June at the same venue.
