Bangladesh (1st innings) : 253/6 in 90 overs (Sabbir 66, Mushfiqur 62*, Soumya 33, Nasir 19*; Lyon 5/77, Agar 1/46)
Two half-centuries from Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman rescued Bangladesh from early damage in the first day of second Test at at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong. Bangladesh are at 260 for 6 after 90 overs.
Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first. Bangladesh had a poor start as opener Tamim Iqbal was gone after scoring 9. Imrul Kayes was the next man to be dismissed on 4. Nathan Lyon picked up both the wickets.
Then Soumya Sarkar and Mominul Haque added 49 runs in the 3rd wicket. Soumya departed for 33 just before the lunch. Mominul failed to carry his innings and got out on 31 after lunch. Shakib Al Hasan looked solid in the wicket but Ashton Agar got rid of him on 24.
Sabbir Rahman and Mushfiqur made an unbeaten 38 runs partnership before tea break. Mushfiqur not out on 29 and his partner Sabbir on 24.
Bangladesh were all sorts of trouble on 117 for 5. But Mushfiqur and Sabbir’s 105 runs partnership in the 6th wicket rebuilt the Bangladesh innings. Lyon broke the partnership by dismissing Sabbir after his career best 66 runs.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained not out on 62 and Nasir Hossain on 19 at the end of day’s play. Nathan Lyon was the most successful bowler for Australia who bagged 5 wickets for 77.
