Bangladesh lost the second ODI by 104 runs against South Africa at Paarl. South Africa lead the 3-match series 2-0.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza opted to bowl first after winning the toss. After a 90 run opening stand between Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock, Shakib Al Hasan gave Bangladesh two breakthroughs in the 18th over. He dismissed de Kock and du Plessis in space of three balls. Rubel Hossain got rid of Amla on 85. But a quick-fire 117 runs partnership between AB de Villiers and JP Duminy set South Africa for a big total.Rubel Hossain finally bagged the wicket of Villiers after he scored a blistering knock of 176. Rubel struck twice in the 50th over as South Africa ended their innings on 350 for 6. Rubel picked up 4 wickets for 62.
Chasing 354, Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes gave Bangladesh a flying start. Pretorius trapped Tamim lbw on 21. After Liton Kumar Das’s early departure, Imrul and Mushfiqur Rahim added 93 runs in the third wicket partnership which gave Tigers a hope for the big chase.
Imran Tahir broke the partnership by dismissing Imrul on 68. Tahir struck again couple of overs later to dismiss Shakib on 5. Mushfiqur was the second victim of Pretorius on 60. Bangladesh lost the last 5 wickets in regular basis and were eventually all out for 249 in 47.5 overs. Phehlukwayo took 4 wickets for 40.
Third and final match of the series will be held at Buffalo Park, East London on October 22.
