Bangladesh have started the ODI series with a comfortable 48-run victory over hosts West Indies in the first ODI at Providence Stadium, Guyana. With this win, Bangladesh lead the 3-match series 1-0.
ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza choose to bat first after winning the toss. Anamul Haque was gone early in the second over without scoring. Then Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan rebuild the Bangladesh innings with a record 207-run stand which now the the highest 2nd wicket partnership for Bangladesh in ODI.
Shakib was finally dismissed by Bishoo on 97. After the departure of Sabbir Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim chipped in with an quick-fire knock of 30 off just 11 balls to guide the Tigers to post 279 for 4 in 50 overs. Tamim got his 10th century in ODI and was remained not out on 130 off 160 balls. Bishoo picked up 2 wickets for 42.
Defending 279, Mashrafe gave the first breakthrough to Bangladesh by dimissing Lewis on 17. Couple of overs later Rubel Hossain bagged the wicket Hope on 6. Gayle was run out after scoring 40. On the other end, Mehidy got rid of Mohammed on 10. Then Mustafizur’s two-wicket in the 36th over and three more wickets from Mashrafe all but ensured the victory for Bangladesh.
Joseph and Bishoo added unbeaten 59 runs in the 10th wicket but it was just reduced the defeat margin for Windies as they managed to score 231 for 9 in 50 overs. Mashrafe grabbed 4 wickets for 37. Tamim was named man of the match for his unbeaten century.
Second match of the series will be held at the same ground on July 25.
