Bangladesh have secured a thrilling victory over Afghanistan in the Super Four of Asia Cup UAE 2018 and kept the hope alive to qualify for the final. Bangladesh won the match by 3 runs. Tigers will take on Pakistan on September 26 in the final Super Four clash.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza decided to bat first after winning the toss at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Bangladesh made two changes in the playing eleven from the last match. Experienced batsman Imrul Kayes and debutant spinner Nazmul Islam came to the side replacing Mosaddek Hossain and Rubel Hossain.

Bangladesh didn’t have the ideal start as opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto got out cheaply on 6 who was followed by Mohammad Mithun on 1. Liton Kumar Das and Mushfiqur Rahim then added 63 runs in the third wicket before Rashid Khan got rid of Liton on 41. Bangladesh were in deep trouble after losing the wickets of Mushfiqur and Shakib Al Hasan in no time.
But Imrul Kayes and Mahmudullah punchback to Afghanistan with a partnership of 128 runs in the sixth wicket stand. Mahmudullah was dismissed after scoring 74 while Imrul remained unbeaten on 72 to power Bangladesh to a fighting total of 249 for 7 in 50 overs. Aftab picked up 3 wickets for 54.
Bangladesh needed early wickets to put pressure on Afghanistan from the start and they got two of them for 28 runs. After a while, Mahmudullah scalped the wicket of half-centurun Shahzad on 53. Then Afghanistan’s highest scorer Shahidi and Asghar put on a strong fightback and made things difficult for the bowlers.
But skipper Mashrafe removed both of them in a short span of time to produce hope for Bangladesh. Post that, Nabi and Shenwari took the chase on with some power hitting which resulted Afghanistan to a equation of 8 required to win in the final over with 4 wickets in hand.
But Mustafizur Rahman had other idea. ‘The Fizz’ produced a sensational final over and conceded just four runs to clinch a nail-biting three-win for the Tigers. He took 2 wickets for 44. Mashrafe also claimed 2 wickets for 62.
Mahmudullah was named the player of the match for his all-round heroics.
