Bangladesh through to the Asia Cup final beating Pakistan

Bangladesh : 239/10 in 48.5 overs (Mushfiqur 99, Mithun 60, Mahmudullah 25; Junaid 4/19, Shaheen 2/47, Hasan 2/60)

Pakistan : 202/9 in 50 overs (Imam 83, Asif 31, Malik 30; Mustafizur 4/43, Mehidy 2/28, Soumya 1/19)

Result : Bangladesh won by 37 runs.

Bangladesh clinched a comprehensive 37-run victory against Pakistan in the last Super Four match of Asia Cup UAE 2018. Tigers will now take on India in the final on September 28 (Friday) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

Bangladesh made couple of changes in the playing eleven from the last match against Afghanistan. Soumya Sarkar, Mominul Haque and Rubel Hossain came to side replacing Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan and Nazmul Islam. Shakib fractured his hand before the game.

Bangladesh had a nightmare start to the innings after Mashrafe Bin Mortaza decided to bat first winning the toss. Bangladesh lost 3 wickets for 12 in 4.2 overs. Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun repaired the inning with an important partnership of 144 in the fourth wicket stand. Hasan Ali broke the partnership with the wicket of Mithun on 60. Mushfiqur was unfortunately got out 99 for the first time in his career.

Pakistan bowlers then put the pressure back in Bangladesh with wickets in regular interval. Tigers were eventually all out for 239 in 48.5 overs. Junaid bagged 4 wickets for 19.

Defending 239, Mehidy Hasan Miraz gave breakthrough in the very first over by dismissing Fakhar on 1. Mustafizur Rahman also struck twice on the other end as Pakistan lost 3 wickets for 18. But Imam and Malik’s 67 run stand revived the Pakistan chase. Then skipper Mashrafe produced an moment of magic to dismiss Malik on 30. Rubel Hossain was the bowler when Mashrafe took an absolute stunner to broke the partnership.

Soumya Sarkar chipped in with the wicket of Shadab on 4 and Pakistan were 94 for 5 then. But half-centurion Imam along with Asif added 71 runs in the sixth wicket to reignited a comeback in the match for Pakistan. Mehidy gave the much needed breakthrough with the wicket of Asif on 31. Mahmudullah picked up the important wicket of Imam on 83 in the next over which ease the pressure on the Tigers. Mustafizur claimed two more wickets as Pakistan were managed to post 202 for 9 in 50 overs. Mustafizur grabbed 4 wickets for 43.

Mushfiqur Rahim was named the man of the match for his match-winning knock.
