Tigers have started the ODI series against Zimbabwe with a thumping 28-run victory at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh lead the three-match series 1-0.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza opted to bat first after winning the toss. Liton Kumar Das and debutant Fazle Rabbi both gone early as Bangladesh lost two wickets for 17. Mushfiqur got the start but failed to capabilities before got out on 15. Imrul Kayes and Mohammad Mithun then added 69 runs. But Jarvis’s three-wicket spell put Bangladesh in deep trouble in the after losing six wickets for 139.
But Imrul Kayes and Mohammad Saifuddin then made an game-changing 127-run stand in the eighth wicket and helped scoring past 250. Imrul played his career-best knock of 144 off 140 balls while Saifuddin scored his maiden ODI fifty. Bangladesh ended up scoring 271 for 8 in 50 overs. Jarvis bagged 4 wickets for 37.
In reply, Mustafizur gave the first breakthrough after Zimbabwe off to a good start with 48 runs in 7.1 overs. Soon two spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nazmul Islam joined the party by picking up wickets in regular interval. Zimbabwe were never in the chase as they lost 8 wickets for 169. S. Williams and Jarvis added 67 runs in the ninth wicket which only reduced the defeat margin for the touring side. Zimbabwe managed to post 243 for 9 after 50 overs. Miraz was the most successful bowler with 3 wickets for 46.
Imrul Kayes was named man of the match for his match-winning knock.
