Skipper Mahmudullah’s late strike gave Bangladesh the momentum back following a tough day for the bowlers at Sylhet. Zimbabwe ended the first day of first Test 236 for 5 in 91 overs.

Earlier Bangladesh have lost the toss and put into field first against Zimbabwe in the first Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet. With this Test, Sylhet become the eighth Test venue in Bangladesh. All-rounder Ariful Haque and spinner Nazmul Islam Apu made their debut in this Test.

Taijul bagged 2 wickets before lunch but H Masakadza’s fifty helped Zimbabwe to post 85 for 2. Abu Jayed Rahi struck first over after the lunch and dismissed Masakadza on 52. Then Nazmul Islam Apu picked up his maiden Test wicket bowled B Taylor out for 13 as the tourists lost 4 wickets for 129. But Sean Williams played an important knock of 88 and gave Bangladesh bowlers a tough time. Finally skipper Mahmudullah got rid of him when he was 12 runs short of the century.

No more wickets were fallen as Moor (37*) and Chakabva (20*) remained unbeaten at the stumps of the day. Taijul was the most successful bowlers for the Tigers with 2 wickets for 86.
