Mominul Haque and lower order batsmen gave Bangladesh en edge on the first day of first Test against Windies at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chottogram. Bangladesh ended the day on 315 for 8 in 88 overs.
Earlier of the day Bangladesh decided to bat first after winning the toss. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan returned to the side after recovering from an finger injury during the Asia Cup 2018. Naeem Hasan made his debut today.
The visitors struck in the very first over as Roach got rid of Soumya Sarkar for a duck. But Imrul Kayes and Mominul Haque’s 105-run stand in the second wicket put Bangladesh in good position before Imrul got out on 44 at lunch break.
Post lunch, Mominul brought up his 8th Test ton to set the foundation for a big first innings total for the Tigers. But Gabriel had other had as he scalped four wickets in no time after tea break as Bangladesh were in deep trouble from 216 for 3 to 235 for 7. Mehidy Hasan and Taijul tried to put some fightback before Warrican bowled Mehidy out 22.
Windies were looked to wrap up the hosts innings in hurry but Taijul along with debutant Naeem batted with comfort till the remaining part of the day and revive the innings. They added an unbeaten 56 runs in the 9th wicket. Taijul was remained unbeaten on 32 and Naeem was on 24. Gabriel bagged 4 wickets for 69.
