Tigers are off to a flying start to the Walton ODI Tri-Series 2019 with a comfortable 8-wicket win over Windies at Clontarf Cricket Club Ground, Dublin. Bangladesh will take on the hosts Ireland in the next match May 9 at Malahide, Ireland.
Windies have chosen to bat first after winning the toss. Two openers Shai Hope and Sunil Ambris gave them a good start with a 89-run stand. Mehidy Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan then picked up two wickets and brought Bangladesh in the match. But centurian Hope’s 108 and Roston Chase’s 51 gave Windies a strong position to put a big total.
But Mashrafe Bin Mortaza had other idea who completely changed the match with his 3-wicket spell including both Hope and Chase. Other bowlers then maintained the disciplined bowling in the later overs and restricted Windies to a total of 261 for 9. Mashrafe scalped 3 wickets for 49 and became the highest wicket taker for Bangladesh in List A Cricket with 413 wickets.
In the chase, Tamim Iqbal Soumya Sarkar made an composed opening partnership of 137 and set the tone for a easy win. Both missed the hundreds as Soumya departed for 73 while Tamim scored 80. Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim then added unbeaten 68 runs in the third wicket to ensured the victory with 5 overs remaining. Shakib was unbeaten on 61 and Mushfiqur was on 32. Chase and Gabriel shared one wicket each for Windies.
