Tigers are off to a flying start in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as they defeated South Africa by 21 runs at The Oval. Bangladesh will face New Zealand in the next match at the same venue.

Earlier Faf du Plessis won the toss and put Bangladesh into bat first. Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar started steadily the innings as they went onto add 60 runs in the opening stand. Andile Phehlukwayo dismissed Tamim on 16. Soumya too got out after couple of overs scoring 42 off 30 balls. Then the two experienced batsmen in the side, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim took the Bangladesh innings forward with an record breaking 142-run partnership.

Just when both were looked certain to score their maiden World Cup hundreds, South Africa bowlers foughtback in the match by removing both of the in quick succession. Mohammad Mithun got the start but misjudged Imran Tahir’s googly to dismiss on 21. But a vital 66 runs between Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain have helped the Tigers to post their highest ODI total of 330 for 6. Mahumudullah was remained unbeaten on 46. Phehlukwayo, Tahir and Morris picked up two wickets each.

South Africa started the slowly before Quinton de Kock was run out on 23. But Aiden Markram and du Plessis put some genuine threat before got out on 45 and 62 respectively. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehdiy Hasan claimed the wickets. Then Rassie van der Dussen and JP Duminy played two 40-run knocks but disciplined bowling in the later overs ensured a comfortable victory for Bangladesh. South Africa ended their innings on 309 for 8. Mustafizur Rahman was the standout bowler with 3 for 67.

Shakib Al Hasan named the player of the Match for his all-round display.
