Another phenomenal knock from Shakib Al Hasan and the bowlers helped the Tigers to clinch their second victory in the 23rd match of ICC Cricket Wolrd Cup 2019. Bangladesh defeated Windies by seven wickets to move up to the fifth spot on the points table in five matches. Bangladesh will take on Australia in the next match on June 20 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Winning the toss, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza decided to bowl first. Bangladesh made one change in the playing eleven by replacing Liton Kumar Das with Mohammad Mithun. Saifuddin gave the much needed wicket of Chris Gayle without scoring to give a good start. Then two half-centurion Shai Hope and Evin Lewis guided the Windies innings for a big total with a 116-run stand. Shakib broke the partnership and got rid of Lewis on 70 while Mustafizur dismissed Hope on 96.

Mustafizur and Saifuddin showed discipline in the later overs as Windies managed to post 321 for 8 thanks to two quick knocks from Shemron Hetmyer and Jason Holder. Mustafizur and Saifuddin both claimed three wickets each.

In reply, Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar started brilliantly as they added 52 runs in the opening stand. After Soumya’s departure on 28, highest run scorer in the tournament Shakib joined with Tamim for another fifty plus partnership before Tamim got run out on 48. Windies then suddenly put some pressure by picking up the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim for 1.

But Shakib along with Liton Kumar played the rest of the innings without further trouble as they went onto made an record breaking unbeaten 189-run partnership in the fourth wicket. Bangladesh chased down the target in 41.3 overs with seven wickets in hand. Shakib was remained not out on 124 off 99 balls while Liton was on 94 off 69 balls.

Shakib named player of the match for his all-round heroics who became only the second Bangladesh batsman to score 6000 runs in ODIs during his knock.
