Tigers suffered defeat against Pakistan to end their disappointing World Cup campaign. Pakistan won the match by 94 runs at Lord’s in the 43rd match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Following the defeat, Bangladesh remained at the seventh spot on the points table with 7 points from 9 matches.
Bangladesh made two changes in the playing eleven for this match. Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan Miraz came to the side replacing Sabbir Rahman and Rubel Hossain. Pakistan opted to bat first after winning the toss.
Mohammad Saifuddin gave the early breakthrough with the wicket of Fakhar Zaman. But then centurion Imam-Ul-Haq and Babar Azam made an 157-run partnership which put them in strong position to post a big total. Bangladesh fought-back in the last 15 overs led by Mustafizur Rahman who bagged successive 5-wicket haul. Saifuddin also chipped in with 3 wickets as Pakistan ended the 50 overs mark on 315 for 9.
Mustafizur took 5 wickets for 75. During the match, Mustafizur became the sixth Bangladeshi bowler to take 100 ODI wickets. He also became the fastest Bangladesh and overall the joint fastest bowler in ODI history to take 100 wickets in 54 matches.
In response, Bangladesh had a poor start as they lost both opener Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar for 48. Highest run scorer of the tournament, Shakib Al Hasan continued his golden form with another fifty and kept the Tigers in the match.
But on the other end no other batsmen gave him proper support by losing their wickets in regular intervals. Shaheen Afridi was the most destructive with the ball for Pakistan who bagged 6 wickets for 35 to bowl out Bangladesh for 221 in 44.1 overs.
Shakib Al Hasan ended the tournament as the highest run scorer with 606 runs in 8 matches including two centuries and five fifties. Shakib also scalped 11 wickets with the ball including a fifer against Afghanistan.
