Toss : New Zealand won the toss and decided to field first.

Bangladesh : 131/10 in 41.5 overs (Mahmudullah 27, Mushfiqur 23, Liton 19; Boult 4/27, Santner 2/23, Neesham 2/27)

New Zealand : 132/2 in 21.2 overs (Nicholls 49*, Guptill 38, Conway 27; Taskin 1/23, Hasan Mahmud 1/49)

Result : New Zealand won by 8 wickets.

Man of the Match : Trent Boult.

Tigers started the New Zealand tour with disappointment as they suffered a 8-wicket defeat in the first ODI in Dunedin. Following the victory New Zealand take 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. The second match of the series will be held on March 23.

Earlier in the morning Bangladesh lost the toss and put into bat first. Tamim was off a flying start he smashed a six in the third ball of the match. But it was Boult who had the last laugh as he trapped Tamim lbw on 13 couple of overs later. Since then Bangladesh batsmen were struggling for runs as Blackcaps seamers kept on taking wickets in regular intervals from both ends.

Only Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim managed to score past 20 runs mark as Bangladesh were all out for 131 in 41.5 overs. Mahmudullah was the highest scorer with 27. Boult bagged 4 wickets for 27.

New Zealand openers gave them a flying start as they added 54 runs in just 5.3 overs before Taskin got rid off Guptill on 38. His partners Nicholls remained unbeaten on 49 as the Blackcaps sealed the match in the 22nd over with 8 wickets remaining. Hasan Mahmud picked up the other wicket of Conway.
