Toss : Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first.

Bangladesh : 541/7 dec. in 173 overs (Shanto 163, Mominul 127, Tamim 90; Vishwa 4/96, Lahiru 1/88, Lakmal 1/81, Lahiru 1/88)

Sri Lanka : 229/3 in 73 overs (Karunaratne 85*, Fernando 58, Dhananjaya 26*; Taskin 1/35, Taijul 1/56, Miraz 1/60)

Bangladesh bowlers had a tough day at the field as the hosts responded strongly with the bat on the third day of first Test. Sri Lanka ended the day on 229 for 3 and trailing by 312 runs. Earlier Bangladesh declared their innings on 541 for 7.

Tigers resumed their first innings total of 474 for 4 on the third day. Overnight unbeaten batsman Liton Kumar Das played with positive approach and scored fifty in a hurry. Liton was dismissed after scoring 50. His partner Mushfiqur too registered fifty and remained unbeaten on 68 before Bangladesh declared the first innings. Vishwa bagged 4 wickets for 96.

Sri Lanka openers gave their side a solid start as they made 114 runs. Then Mehidy Hasan Miraz gave the first breakthrough by dismissing Thirimanne for 58. Taskin on the other end removed Fernandno for 20. After a while Taijul got rid of Mathews on 25 who looked dangerous during his knock.

But it was Sri Lanka captain Karunaratne who frustrated the Bangladesh bowlers and remained not out in 85. Dhananjaya was the other unbeaten batsman on 26.
