Toss : Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first.

Bangladesh : 541/7 dec. in 173 overs (Shanto 163, Mominul 127, Tamim 90; Vishwa 4/96, Lahiru 1/88, Lakmal 1/81, Lahiru 1/88) & 100/2 in 33 overs (2nd innings) (Tamim 74*, Mominul 23*; Lakmal 2/21)

Sri Lanka : 648/8 dec. in 179 overs (Karunaratne 244, Dhananjaya 166, Hasaranga 43; Taskin 3/112, Taijul 2/164, Miraz 1/160)

Result : Match drawn.

The first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has been drawn after rain stopped the play on the fifth day. Following the draw, Tigers opened their account in the ICC World Test Championship. The second and final Test of the series will be starting from April 29 at the same venue.

Sri Lanka added 136 more runs for the expense of 5 wickets to their overnight total of 512 before lunch. Taskin Ahmed was star of show in the early morning as he removed both Karunaratne and Dhananjaya who troubled the Bangladeshi bowlers since the third day. Sri Lanka declared their innings on 648 for 8 with a lead of 107. Taskin claimed the highest 3 wickets for 112.

The match was heading for a draw as their was not enough time for a different result. But Lakmal gave the Tigers some scare as he dismissed Saif Hassan and first innings centurion Najmul Hossain Shanto for 27.

But Tamim Iqbal on other end counter-attack the the hosts bowlers with another quick-fire fifty. Skipper Mominul gave him the much needed support who batted patiently throughout the innings. Before rain stopped the play which ultimately ended the match, Bangladesh managed to score 100 for 2. Tamim and Mominul remained unbeaten on 74 and 23 respectively. Lakmal took 2 wickets for 21.
