An splendid all-round display from Shakib Al Hasan saved the day for Bangladesh as they clinch the series with a thrilling 3-wicket win in the second ODI. Following the win, Tigers lead the series 2-0. Third and final ODI of the series will be held on July 20.
Bangladesh made no change in the playing eleven from the first match. Zimbabwe again won the toss but this time they decided to bat first in Harare.
Taskin struck early to dismiss Kamunhukamwe for 1. Chakabva and Taylor both got the start but failed to convert their innings into big as Zimbabwe reduced to 111 for 4. While other batsmen struggled on the other end, it was Madhevere who stood-out for his side. His career best 56 gave the hosts some hope to post a fighting total.
Zimbabwe ended their innings on 240 for 9 thanks to Sikandar’s quick 30 at the end. Left arm seamer Shoriful Islam was the standout bowler for Bangladesh who grabbed 4 wickets for 46 which is also his best bowling figure in ODIs.
Tamim Iqbal and last match centurion Liton Kumar Das started the chase carefully. Zimbabwe came back to the match by removing the pair in space for a short time for 20 and 21 respectively. Bangladesh fell in further trouble after Mohammad Mithun and Mosaddek Hossain gone cheaply.
Mahmudullah then joined with Shakib Al Hasan then made a vital 55 runs partnership with Mahmudullah before the later dismissed on 26. Mehidy Hasan promoted to the batting order but he failed to use the opportunity as Madhevere got rid of him for 5.
Bangladesh were in big trouble after losing Afif Hossain with a total of 173 on the board. Shakib on the other end kept his head cool and played an sensible knock. He got the much needed support from Mohammad Saifuddin who remained unbeaten on 28.
Shakib missed the deserving century but his unbeaten 96-run knock ensured Bangladesh the series win with 5 balls remaining. Jongwe took 2 wickets for 46 for Zimbabwe.
