A clinical display from the bat and ball from the Tigers kept their hope for qualify for the Super 12 thanks to a 26-run win over Oman. Shakib Al Hasan led Bangladesh to the much needed victory with his all-round display. Mahmudulla’s side will take on Papua New Guinea in their next match on October 21.
Defending 153, Mustafizur Rahman provided two wickets in the powerplay. But Jatinder Singh played an gritty knock and gave his side a hope to chase down the target. But after his departure on 40, only one batsman managed to touch the double digits. They were restricted to 127 for 9. Mustafizur grabbed 4 wickets for 36.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Naim Sheikh came to the side in place of Soumya Sarkar. The left handed batsman marked the occasion of his first ever World Cup match with an impressive fifty plus knock. He made a crucial 80 runs partnership with Shakib in the third wicket to help posting a fighting total.
Shakib got run out after scoring 42 off just 29 balls. His partner Naim socred the highest 64 before Kaleemullah dismissed him. Skipper Mahmudullah chipped in with 10-ball 17-run knock as Bangladesh managed to post a 150 plus total on the board. Bilal took 3 wickets for 18 for Oman.
