The fifth edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) ended on December 12 after Rangpur Riders clinched the title by beating previous champion Dhaka Dynamites. Let’s have a look at this season’s BPL in numbers.
Highest run scorer : After a quiet start in the group stage, Caribbean T20 superstar Chris Gayle rocked the BPL with two blistering centuries which helped Rangpur Riders to clinch the title. Gayle topped the highest run scorers list with 485 runs from 11 matches including 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries. Evin Lewis scored the second highest 396 runs from 12 matches. Gayle’s Rangpur teammate, Ravi Bopara scored the third highest 365 runs from 15 matches.
Highest wicket taker : Dhaka Dynamites skipper Shakib Al Hasan performed regularly with the bowl for his team. Shakib picked up highest 22 wickets from 13 matches including tournament best bowling figure of 5 for 16 against Rangpur Riders. Khulna Titans seamer Abu Jayed bagged second highest 18 wickets from 12 matches and Hasan Ali of Comilla Victorians took 16 wickets from 9 matches.
Highest total : Khulna Titans scored the highest total of 213 for 5 against Chittagong Vikings in the group stage match. Chittagong Vikings scored the second highest total of 211 for 5 against Sylhet Sixers while Rangpur Riders scored third highest total of 206 for 1 against Dhaka Dynamites in the final.
Highest partnership : Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum’s unbeaten 2nd wicket partnership of 201 runs against Dhaka Dynamites was the highest partnership in this season’s BPL. Johnson Charles and Brendon McCullum scored the second highest 151 runs partnership against Comilla Victorians in the 2nd Qualifier match. Third highest was Chris Gayle and Mohammad Mithun’s unbeaten 146 runs partnership in the third wicket against Khulna Titans.
Highest sixes : Chris Gayle again dominated the chart as he hit the highest 47 sixes in the tournament. Gayle’s 18 sixes against Dhaka Dynamites in the final is the highest six in an innings in T20. Dhaka Dynamites opener Evin Lewis hit second highest 27 sixes and jointly Rangpur Riders’s Brendon McCullum and Chittagong Vikings captain Luke Ronchi hit 21 sixes.
Most catches : Khulna Titans captain Mahmudullah took highest catches who grabbed 13 catches from 12 matches. Second placed Ariful Haque took 10 catches while Sabbir Rahman took 9 catches.
