Stumps, Day Three

Sri Lanka 1st Innings: 494 (Mendis 194, Gunaratne 85, Mehedi 4/113, Mustafizur 2/68)

Bangladesh 1st Innings: 312 (Mushfiqur 85, Soumya 71, Tamim 57, Mehedi 41, Perera 3/53, Herath 3/72)

A fine knock from the skipper Mushfiqur Rahim helped Bangladesh to avoid the follow-on in the third day of Galle test.

It wasn’t an ideal start for Bangladesh in the first session as they lost Soumya Sarkar in the early morning. Soumya added only 5 runs to his tally and got out on 71.

Bangladesh lost 3 wickets for 22 runs before the lunch and ended the session with Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan on the wicket. The two batsmen made an important partnership of 106 runs and guided Bangladesh to score past 300. Mehedi Hasan was got out on 41.

Next batsman Taskin Ahmed failed to last long and dismissed in the first ball he faced. Dilruwan Perera was denied by Subashis Roy from hat-trick.

Rangana Herath got rid of Mushfiqur Rahim on 85. Mustafizur Rahman was the last man to be dismissed on the second ball after the tea break. Bangladesh were bowled out on 312 and trail Sri Lanka by 182 runs in the first innings.

Heavy rain and bad light stopped the day’s play. Sri Lanka will resume their second innings in the tomorrow morning.
