Bangladesh go through last four after dramatic Tie

The Last group stage match between Bangladesh and Pakistan in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2017 has been tied. Pakistan become the group champion with better run-rate.

Earlier Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (1). Saif Uddin struck early and got rid of the both Pakistani openers on 20. Nayeem Hasan and Nasum Ahmed also joined the party and grabbed one wicket each.

Pakistan were all sorts of trouble at 35/4. Then Hammad Azam and Haris Sohail came to the rescue and added 86 runs in the 5th wicket. Abul Hasan broke the partnership and picked up the wicket of Azad on 30. Couple of overs later Nasum dismissed Sohail on 63.

Last 2 wickets were shared by Abul Hasan and Saif Uddin as Pakistan finished their innings on 233/8. Saif was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh with 3 for 54.

In reply Bangladesh have lost Saif Hassan on 10. Azmir Ahmed also gone for 12 in the next over. Skipper Mominul Haque and Nazmul Hasan made a partnership of 63 runs in the 3rd wicket and rebuilt the innings. Shanto was gone for 30.

Nasir Hossain was the next man to go after scoring 6 runs. Then Mominul and Mohammad Mithun added vital 73 runs in the 5th wicket. Hussain Talat picked up the wicket of Mominul on 75.

Afif Hossain followed him in the next over and gone for 1. Zafar Gohar dismissed half-centurion Mithun on 53. Abul Hasan was the next man to be dismissed on 9 when Bangladesh still needed 13 more runs to win.

Saif Uddin and Nayeem Hasan’s unbeaten 12 runs partnership in the 9th wicket almost won the match for Bangladesh but they fell only 1 run short of the victory as the match ended as tie.

Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka in the 1st semi-final at Chittagong Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on April 1.
