Bangladesh have started the Test series against New Zealand with defeat as centuries from Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah went in vain on the fourth day. The Tigers have lost the match by an innings and 52 runs. Second Test of the series will start from March 8 at Wellington.

Two overnight batsmen Soumya and Mahmudullah started the Bangladesh innings on day four with 174 for 4. They batted through the first session without any trouble and went onto add 235 runs in the fifth wicket which is Bangladesh’s second highest Test partnership against New Zealand. Soumya was dismissed after scoring 149 off 171 balls by Trent Boult. It was his Soumya’s first Test century in his 13th Test.

After the dismissal of Soumya, Mahmudullah too completed his fourth Test century and tried his best to overcome the innings defeat with the help of tailenders before dismissed on 146 as the ninth batsmen. Bangladesh were eventually all out for 429 in 103 overs. Boult scalped 5 wickets for 123 for the Kiwis.
