The hosts Sri Lanka gave Lasith Malinga the perfect farewell as Tigers suffered a 91-run defeat in the first ODI of the series at Colombo. Despite two fifties from Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman, Bangladesh fell short by a big margin in the chase. Second match of the series will be held on July 28 at the same venue.

Sri Lanka posted 314 for 8 opting to bat first. Kusal Perera struck 111 of 99 balls to provide the foundation for a big total for Sri Lanka. Then Angelo Mathews and Kusal Mendis’s two 40-plus knocks helped them score past the 300 runs mark. Shafiul Islam was the most successful bowlers among Bangladesh bowlers with 3 wickets for 62.

Chasing 315, Tigers had a nightmare start as they lost 4 wickets for 39 inside 12 overs. Then two half-centurion Mushfiqur and Sabbir added 111 runs in the fifth wicket to revive the innings. But Sri Lanka bowlers fought-back in the match by removing both of them in a quick succession and bowled Bangladesh all out for 223 in 41.4 overs. Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Pradeep shared 3 wickets each for Sri Lanka.
