Bangladesh suffer defeat in third ODI

Third ODI

Venue : Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium

Toss : Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first.

Sri Lanka : 286/6 in 50 overs (K. Perera 120, Dhananjaya 55*, Gunathilaka 39; Taskin 4/46, Shoriful 1/56)

Bangladesh : 189/10 in 42.3 overs (Mahmudullah 53, Mosaddek 51, Mushfiqur 28;  Chameera 5/16, Ramesh 2/40, Hasaranga 2/47)

Result : Sri Lanka won by 97 runs.

Bangladesh ended the ODI series against Sri Lanka with defeat as the visiting side won the third match by 97 runs. Despite losing the clash, Tigers clinched the series 2-1. Bangladesh are currently at the top of the of points table of Cricket World Cup ODI Super League points table.

Kusal Perera won the toss and opted to bat first. Tigers made couple of changes in the playing eleven from the first match. Naim Sheikh replaced opener Liton Kumar Das while Taskin Ahmed came to the side in place of injured Mohammad Saifuddin.

Sari Lanka were off to a flyer as their opening pair added 82 runs. Finally it was Taskin Ahmed who broke the partnership with 2 wickets in an over including Gunathilaka and Nissanka. K. Perera and and K. Mendis brought Sri Lanka back to the match with their 69-run partnership. Taskin again gave the breakthrough by dismissing Mendis for 20.

But Perera on the other end kept the bowers in pressure and picked up his century. He got the support of Dhananjaya who remained unbeaten on 52 to power Sri Lanka to a total of 286 for 6 in 50 overs. Taskin was the only standout bowler with 4 for 46.

Chasing 287, Tigers lost the early wicket of Naim Sheikh for 1. Chameera put more pressure on Bangladesh by removing Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan in space of couple of overs and reduced to 28 for 3. In-form Mushfiqur Rahim then tried to rebuild the innings with Mosaddek Hossain. Their fightback cut short by Ramesh who got rid of Mushfiqur on 28.

Mosaddek also followed him just after scoring his half-century. Run rate was going high and Mahmudullah left along in the crease without significant support from other batsmen. Mahmudullah was got out after scoring 53 and Bangladesh were eventually all out for 189. Chameera claimed 5 wickets for 16 for Sri Lanka.
