Bangladesh lost their first match in the series following a batting collapse in the third T20I as New Zealand won the match by 52 runs. Bangladesh lead the 5-match series 2-1. Fourth match of the series will be held on September 8.
Chasing 129, Naim Sheikh and Liton Kumar Das gave Bangladesh a good start with 23 runs stand before the later dismissed after scoring 15 off 11 balls. The visiting spinners then put more pressure from both ends as they picked up next 3 wickets for just 9 runs. From there, Tigers were never able to fightback. Mushfiqur Rahim who came to bat at number 4, remained unbeaten on 20 but his innings only reduced the defeat margin. Bangladesh were eventually all out for 76. Man of the match Ajaz bagged his career best 4 wickets for 16.
Earlier, Tom Latham won the toss and choose to bat first. Bangladesh played with the same playing eleven from the first two matches.
Allen, who played for the match time in the series looked dangerous before Mustafizur Rahman dismissed him on 15. Then Mohammad Saifuddin struck twice in an over and got rid of Young and de Grandhomme. Spinner also joined the party as New Zealand reduced to 62 for 5 in 11th over. At this point, Bangladesh were eying to restrict them with a lower total.
But, Nicholls and Blundell had other idea as the pair slowly taken the match away from Mahmudullah’s side. They added unbeaten 66 runs in the 6th wicket to help New Zealand posting a fighting total. Nicholls was not out on 36 and Blundell was on 30.
