Bangladesh to follow on after first innings debacle

South Africa : 573/4 dec. in 120 overs (Markram 143, du Plessis 135*, Amla 132; Subashis 3/118, Rubel 1/113)

Bangladesh : 147/10 in 42.5 overs (Liton 70, Imrul 26, Taijul 12; Rabada 5/33, Olivier 3/40, Maharaj 1/7)

Bangladesh (2nd innings) : 7/0 in 1.2 overs (Imrul 6*, Soumya 1*)

Disappointing batting display from the batsmen put Bangladesh in big trouble on the second day of second Test at Bloemfontein. At the end of the day, Bangladesh still trail by 419 runs with 10 wickets in hand.

South Africa started the day on 428 for 3. First over after the lunch, Hashim Amla was dismissed after scoring 132. Subashis Roy picked up his 3rd wicket and broke Amla and Faf du Plessis’s 247 runs partnership in the fourth wicket. South Africa declared their first innings on 573 for 4. du Plessis remained not out on 135 and Quinton de Kock on 28.

In reply Bangladesh lost the wicket of Soumya Sarkar early. Kagiso Rabada bowled him out on 9. Duanne Olivier dismissed Mominul Haque on 4. Bangladesh were in all sorts of trouble on 65 for 6 after losing couple of wickets in quick-succession.

But Liton Das Kumar stood out and scored his second half-century in Test. Liton and Taijul Islam added 50 runs in the seventh wicket. Olivier broke the partnership and bowled Taijul out on 12. After Liton’s departure on 70, Tigers were all out for 147 in 42.5 overs. Rabada picked up 5 wickets for 33.

Bangladesh again batted for 1.2 overs after South Africa forced Bangladesh to follow-on. Imrul and Soumya remained not out before umpires called off the day’s play due to bad light.
