Shadman-Shakib put Bangladesh in control on opening day

Debutant Shadman Islam and Shakib Al Hasan’s fifty guided Bangladesh to a good position in the first innings on the first day of second Test against Windies. Bangladesh posted 259 for 5 in 90 overs at stumps.

Earlier Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS). Two changes were made in the playing eleven from the first Test as Liton Kumar Das came to the side replacing Mustafizur Rahman. Opening batsman Shadman Islam made his debut.

Shadman and Soumya Sarkar gave Bangladesh to a good start with a opening stand of 42 before Chase got rid of Soumya on 19. Mominul Haque and Mohammad Mithun both got the start but failed to play big innings. Shadman brought up his maiden fifty in Tests on debut but missed out on century by 24 runs as Bishoo trapped him lbw on 76.

After the Tea break, Windies put more pressure on Bangladesh as Lewis bowled Mushfiqur Rahim out on 14. During the knock, Mushfiqur became the second Bangladesh batsman to score 4000 runs in Tests after Tamim Iqbal.

Skipper Shakib and Mahmudullah batted with determination throughout the rest of the days play as they made an unbeaten 69-run partnership in the 6th wicket. Shakib was remained unbeaten on 55 and Mahmudullah was on 31. Bishoo was the most successful bowler for the visitors with 2 wickets for 69.
