Bowlers shine in the first day of historic Test

Stumps, Day 1

Sri Lanka: 238/7 (Chandimal 86*, Silva 34, Mustafizur 2/32, Mehedi 2/58)

It was a great day for Bangladesh in the field on their 100th Test against Sri Lanka at the P. Sara Oval Stadium. Some sensational performance from the bowlers helped Bangladesh to restrict Sri Lanka on 238 for 7 at the end of the day.

Earlier Rangana Herath won the toss and elected to bat first. Mustafizur Rahman struck first to dismiss Karunaratne. Then Mehedi gave a double strike to get rid of Mendis and Tharanga. Subashis Roy dismissed Asela Gunaratne just before the lunch.

Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjay de Silva put some fight back in the 5th wicket. Taijul Islam broke this partnership and bowled Silva out on 34.

Shakib Al Hasan got rid of Niroshan Dickwella on 34 after tea. Dilruwan Perera was the next batsman to be dismissed by Mustafizur.

Mehedi Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman are the most successful bowlers for Bangladesh with 2 wickets each. Other 3 wickets are shared by Taijul Islam, Shakib Al Hasan and Subashis Roy.

 Chandimal was the standout performer for Sri Lanka with an unbeaten knock of 86.
