Bowlers struggle after Mahmudullah, Taskin heroics

Day 2, Only Test

Toss : Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first.

Bangladesh : 468/10 in 126 overs (Mahmudullah 150*, Liton 95, Taskin 75; Muzarabani 4/94, Tiripano 2/58, Nyauchi 2/92)

Zimbabwe : 114/1 in 41 overs (Shumba 41, Taylor 37*, Kaitano 33*; Shakib 1/43)

A fantastic day of Test cricket have witnessed both team fought with their heart out on the second day of Only Test in Harare. Mahmudullah and Taskin shone for Bangladesh with the bat helping to score past the 450 runs mark. Zimbabwe scored 114 runs in expense of one wicket at stumps.

Bangladesh started the day with the overnight score of 294 for 8. Zimbabwe were looking for picking up the two wickets quickly but Mahmudullah and Taskin frustrated them in the first session. Mahmudullah kept his cool while Taskin batted with aggression to score runs in a hurry.

The pair kept on batting after the lunch break as Mahmudullah picked up century in his comeback match. Taskin on the other end scored his first ever half-century in Tests.

They went on to add record 191 runs before Shumba bowled Taskin on 75. It is now the second highest 9th wicket partnership in Test history. Last batsman Ebadat Hossain failed to stay long as Bangladesh were all out for 468. Mahmudullah remained not out on 150. Muzarabani bagged 4 wickets for 94 for the hosts.

In response, Zimbabwe openers began their innings slowly. Their resistance tested the visiting bowlers as Shumba and Kaitano made 61 runs. It was Shakib Al Hasan who finally gave the breakthrough with the wicket of Shumba for 41.

Skipper Taylor then played an counter attacking 37 runs knock to help his side adding important runs. His parner Kaitano remained not out on 33 as Zimbabwe ended the day 354 runs behind with 9 wickets in hand.
