Toss : Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first.

Sri Lanka : 291/1 in 90 overs (Thirimanne 131*, Karunarante 118, Fernando 40*; Shoriful 1/52)

Bangladesh bowlers had a rough day in the first day of second Test as the hosts controlled the day. Both Sri Lankans openers scored century as they ended the day on 291 for 1.

Winning the toss, Dimuth Karunaratne decided to bat first. Bangladesh made one change in the eleven from the first Test. Debutant Shoriful Islam came to the side replacing Ebadat Hossain.

Just like the first Test, Karunarante again frustrated the Bangladesh bowlers from the start. This time his opening partner Thirimanne joined the party with him as the pair made 209 runs and batted the entire first two sessions. Couple of chances was created by the bowlers but fielders let them down.

Finally it was Shoriful who broke the partnership and picked up the wicket of Karunaratne on 118 as his maiden Test wicket. But Thirimanne on the other end continued his resistance as he also scoere century to make way for side posting a big first innings total. At stumps, Thirimanne was remained unbeaten on 131 and Fernando was on 40.
