Coach Chandika Hathurusingha expressed his optimism in the pre-match press conference today. He seemed also quite satisfied with performance of the batsmen but showed little disappointment towards the bowling department. However, he also expressed that team is confident to look forward and they will do better in the next game, “They have started to believe that they were very close in the game (first ODI) where they were 144/4 and we were 154/4. If our bowling plan was executed well then we would end to a different situation.”

Chandika accused the lack of practice match during the press conference. “This is the first time we are coming out of Bangladesh for a long time. So we are getting used to as well. We have played only one warm-up game. They played a lot of cricket back home but they would love to play extra warm up game here. They know the deals, however, and would execute the skills in the next game.”

Coach also evolved his hopes on the spinners, “There is a high scoring outfield and good wicket to bat. But the stats suggest that spinners have bowled well and that’s another thing to look at.” He also recalls the good memory of World Cup on this very ground. “We have played here and that’s a good memory to them. In the last game we have scored 270 despite losing wickets earlier. It will also give confidence for the next game.”

Chandika is little bit disappointed with Mushfiq’s injury and opined that Mushfiq’s injury may cost the team. But at the same time he put his confidence on Nurul Hasan Sohan. “Mushfiq is very big part of our team but the boys are confident. It is strange to say that we just had a meeting and the boys are more confident than earlier. If we had Mushfiq then we would select the squad from different angle. But still Sohan is coming in and he’s very much capable with bat. I’m not saying he is as good as Mushfiq but he has already played some international cricket. He is confident that he will do the job but still we will select the team combination depending on the ground.”

Coach holds his beliefs that Bangladesh will play well in the second ODI and will bring some positive result, “We are very much hopeful and confident that we will do better than the last game.”

The game will begin at 4 AM Bangladesh time on 29th December.
