It was an eventful day for Imrul Kayes in the fifth round of Bangladesh Cricket League. The experienced opener scored a knock 136 for Prime Bank South Zone against Islami Bank East Zone. Sunzamul Islam was another star performer of the day for BCB North Zone against Walton Central Zone.
Winning the toss at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Prime Bank South Zone elected to bat first. Both of the openers gave a solid start of 96 runs. Islami Bank East Zone hit back taking some quick wickets. But Imrul kept the run-wheel moving from the other end. After grabbing his 15th first class hundred, Imrul was finally out scoring 136 of 210 balls with 18 sixes and 2 fours. With the help of some handy contribution from the tail-enders, South Zone managed a modest total of 296. Mohammad Saifuddin and Saqlain Sajib took 3 wickets each for East Zone.
The other match in Sylhet International Cricket Stadium was dominated by bowlers. Saif Hassan and Abdul Majid of Walton Central Zone had an opening partnership of 37 runs. Then Mehrab Hossain Junior also had a partnership of 46 runs with Saif after Mazid’s departure. It was all for the bowlers then. Apart from Taibur Rahman, none of the batsman from number 4 to 11 of Central Zone could reach double figures. Finally Central Zone was all out for 181 runs. Sunzamul had a 5 wicket haul for 45 runs. Farhad Reza took 3 wickets for 41 runs. Saif top scored with 63, Taibur scored a crucial knock of 40.
BCB North Zone also struggled later in the match. They finished the day with 63 for 3. Junaid Siddique and Naeem Islam were unbeaten on the first day.
