Liton, Shakib power Bangladesh emphatic win in first ODI

Toss : Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Bangladesh : 276/9 in 50 overs (Liton 102, Afif 45, Mahmudullah 33; Jongwe 3/51, Muzarabani 2/47, Ngarava 2/61)

Zimbabwe : 121/10 in 28.5 overs (Chakabva 54, Taylor 24, Myers 18; Shakib 5/30, Taskin 1/22, Saifuddin 1/23)

Result : Bangladesh won by 155 runs.

Player of the Match : Liton Kumar Das.

Bangladesh start ODI series agianst Zimbabwe with a huge 155-run win to lead the series 1-0. After Liton Kumar Das’s century, Shakib helped the Tigers to seal the match easily thanks to his 5-wicket haul. Second ODI of the series will be held on July 18 at the same venue.

Bangladesh made couple of changes to the playing eleven as Mushfiqur Rahim left the tuur and return back to home for family reason. Also Mustafizur Rahman left out due to injury.

The hosts won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. Batsmen found in hard to score runs as Zimbabwe seamers had the upper hand in the first half of the innings. Skipper Tamim Iqbal gone without scoring. Other top order batsmen also got out cheaply as Bangladesh reduced to 74 for 4 in the 19th over.

Opener Liton stood out on the other and played with sensibility who got made a valuable 5th wicket 93-run partnership with Mahmudullah to revive the innings. Mahmudullah was dismissed after scoring 33 but Liton continued his fight.

Liton was finally got out after picking up his fourth ODI century, it was also his third against the same opponent. After his departure, it was Afif Hossain who gave the perfect finish with his quickfire 45 runs knock. Bangladesh ended their innings with a formidable total of 276 for 9. Jongwe took 3 wickets for 51.

Zimbabwe lost their first wicket in the second over as Mohammad Saifuddin dimissed Marumani for a duck. Since then throughout the innings, the visiting bowlers were dominating from both hands led by Shakib Al Hasan.

Only three batsmen were able to touch the double digits as they were bowled out for 121 in 28.5 overs. Chakabva was the highest scorer who scored 54. Shakib claimed 5 wickets for 5 wickets for 30, it was his third 5-wicket haul in this format.

Liton was named the player of the match for his match-winning knock of 102 off 114 balls.
